Smelliot Part 2

So good news, Smelliot, is smelling better. I gave it a new breathable bag and threw out the old vinyl bag it was in. I think that was her main problem. So now that's a really weird name for this piece but, roll with it, it will help me remember exactly what it is.

Sewing over boning for a corset, its exciting! I went through 4 needles putting this in, no dramatic snaps though. I now know what gage to start with next time.  The dress was all over the place. I scooted my cutting table over to try and put the excess over my shoulder, it's a little helpful, but I need to come up with some sort of hanger by the table situation.

I put in the corset and asked my model to come back for a second fitting. I was worried that removal of the zipper and adding of a shorter corset might be an issue, and I didn't want to go further without checking. I also felt like if it I got the dress seated down correctly the hem would be different than the first pin.  It was very true the hem is different when the dress is laced up I would have cut her too short.  I did just a quick lace up without the modesty panel, I just wanted to see what it fit like, and it looks great!

It is hard to see but it's about a 3 inch hem difference! I am glad we did a second fitting, and now I am confident I can make it look awesome. I plan on hemming to the floor in the front, installing snaps to the corset and modesty panel and engineering an American bustle.

Stay tuned for part 3.
