The Road Less Traveled

   Hi and welcome.

After some soul searching I have decided to retire from the medical field and become something awesome. I am now a seamstress by my own choice. I am training to be a Bridal Alteration Specialist, with a title of Master Seamstress. I am excited but, I am just at the beginning at the fork in the road, it's scary! Let's get a move on.

I am a student of an online academy, working at home in my own little studio. I have a lot of used equipment that works just fine, and some thrifted and discounted garments to work on. I will be cataloging my "homework projects" with before and after pictures and a journal entry. It's a good way to memorialize this time in my life, and open up to my local sewing community. If you have advice, please comment, I am grateful for help.

I have been working for 2 months now, on thrifted bridesmaid dresses. Here are some pictures of the last 2 dresses I shorted and took in:

First is a lace slit dress that I took up on the shoulder and took in. Then I also Hemmed the puddle train off also, it was partied in and had some battle scars. first pics are before, last two are the after.

Next is another thrifted bridesmaids dress. It's the same color and has had similar abuse! I wonder if it was from the same wedding party? I hemmed it super short because I couldn't get the stains out and I wanted to practice on the fabric a tiny double rolled hem(this is poly-chiffon). I also shortened the spaghetti straps internally.

I plan on donating back my thrifts as I fix them up, however the second dress is almost a negligee now, it may be harvested for the strap detail, zipper and be put out of it's misery!

Next adventure is on deck. I have an ivory Emmanuel wedding gown out in my studio! It needs a zipper removed and I am adding a corset back. I will also be practicing bustles and hems on this too! My neighbor was gracious enough to be a model. Look for a next post coming soon.

It's getting really floofy in here!!
